Not only is the TT320 extremely portable, but its patent pending drive mechanism also makes it useable anywhere in the northern or southern hemispheres without the need to press buttons, flick switches or reprogram.
-In the northern hemisphere, simply unstow the TT320 counterclockwise and you are ready for 2 hours precision tracking.
-In the southern hemisphere, unstow the TT320 in the clockwise direction instead.
The TT320 has a built in polar arm into which a polar scope locates to make polar alignment quick and easy. For transportation and storage the polar arm tucks away neatly between the drive arms.
The polar arm rotates and clicks every 15 degrees, allowing the polar scope to be positioned with a unobstructed view of the Celestial Pole.
Polar alignment is quick and easy. Simply insert the polar scope through the hole in the polar arm. Powerful magnets in the polar arm will ensure the polar scope remains flush with the polar arm. Rotate the polar scope until the reticle is correctly aligned. Then make fine adjustments to correctly align on the celestial pole.
The long drive arms of the TT320 allow a small motor to drive a relatively large load. This reduces the power requirement such that the unit only pulls around 0.2 Amps maximum at 12 V.
With this low current draw, a typical 12 V, 7 Ah lead acid battery will provide almost 28 hours of running time!
The low power requirement also means a much smaller 8 x AA battery pack will give you all the power you need for a typical night's viewing.
The 12 V DC in jack socket is conveniently located on the back of the TT320, ensuring the power cable is kept well clear of hands, arms and equipment in the dark.
A power lead is supplied with the TT320, with DC plug at one end and a standard cigarette lighter plug at the other which is compatible with most power packs.
We strongly recommend that you fit your lead acid power pack with a 1 A fuse.
The TT320 has been engineered to strict tolerances to give you maximum tracking accuracy and the reliability needed for years of use.
All of the components are made in the UK factory for optimum control over quality, using state of the art Haas CNC machining.
The majority of components are made from aerospace grade 6082 T6 aluminium for strength and to save weight. All nuts, screws and hardware are made from corrosion resistant stainless steel. The printed circuit boards are robotically manufactured in the UK to the highest standards using environmentally friendly processes. The TT320 uses two high performance microprocessors running at 20 and 16 million instructions per second.
At the heart of the TT320 is the precision motor and screw assembly which is manufactured in the US to AstroTrac's rigorous specification. The screw is an integral part of the motor to minimize periodic error.
The screw is protected by a transparent screw guard, which is made from polycarbonate, a material commonly used for bullet proof glass and riot shields.
Quality bearings are essential for smooth, accurate movement, so a precision ball and needle roller bearings are used throughout. The AstroTrac's high load capacity and rigidity is achieved by preloading the main drive arm bearings with a unique preload mechanism.
The Astrotrac weighs less than 1.4 kg (3.1 lb) in weight and is less than 44 cm (17.5") long. The TT320 is extremely portable and can easily be carried with other equipment.
